Yem Kem is a Nigerian herbal wellness brand with a heritage spanning more than four decades. Founded by Prince (Dr.) Akintunde Ishola Ayeni, Yem Kem was built from a deep-rooted knowledge of traditional herbal practice and a vision to present Nigeria's natural wellness heritage in a modern, accessible and trusted way.
Dr. Ayeni's connection to herbal practice began at an early age, learning from his father and drawing from generations of traditional knowledge within the Ayeni family. In 1981, he began his own journey in herbal practice, laying the foundation for what would eventually become Yem Kem International.
Originally known as Alafia Tayo, the business evolved into Yem Kem International as Dr. Ayeni sought to transform the way traditional herbal preparations were produced, presented and perceived. His approach brought together traditional knowledge and more contemporary methods of preparation and packaging, helping herbal products become more convenient and accessible to a wider audience.
Over the decades, Yem Kem grew from its Nigerian roots into a recognised name within the herbal wellness sector. Its journey has been shaped by innovation, resilience and a commitment to preserving valuable traditional knowledge while adapting it for changing generations.
